Oyo APC Decries Abduction of Adelabu’s Sister, Sons

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, on Wednesday, condemned the abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, the younger sister of the former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu and her twin children by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday in Ibadan.

A statement released by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, urged Governor Seyi Makinde to collaborate with security agencies and relevant stakeholders with a view to arresting the spate of insecurity in the state.

Sadare lamented that the kidnapping of Busayo and her sons happened at a time when the public was increasingly becoming agitated over the unresolved cases of kidnappings involving some school children and their teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state as well as two staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria at Idi-Ayunre in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state.

The PUNCH reports that John-Paul, who is a biological sister to the former minister, Adelabu, was kidnapped alongside her 12-year-old twin sons at Elewura-Challenge in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of the state.

The abduction was carried out by some armed attackers who were said to have trailed the car conveying the victims from their home before flagging them down at 7.30am at the scene of the incident.

The state police command through a statement issued by its spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said investigation had commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the incident, urging the residents to remain calm.

Sadare said, “We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the Federal, State and Local Government levels to take a critical look at the security architecture of Oyo with a view to tightening all the loose ends and ensure maximum protection of lives and property of the citizens regardless of their background, economic or socio-political status.

“We demand immediate rescue of all Oriire school abductees, two CRIN staff, Mrs Busayo John-Paul and her children as well as others who are in captivity at the moment while we also call for concerted efforts from the governments (particularly Governor Makinde) and security agencies to arrest the ugly trend of kidnappings and violent attacks against residents of the state.

“No citizen deserves to live in perpetual fear and anxiety as is the situation with the residents of Oyo at the moment and it is on this premise that we call on Governor Makinde to come down from his high horse and seek help where necessary so that the situation does not degenerate further. As it stands, nobody is safe anywhere in the state and it has never been this bad.”

The PUNCH reports that over 40 teachers and students were kidnapped, on Friday, May 15, 2026, during a coordinated attack at Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

It will also be recalled that a chieftain of APC in the state, Wale Oriade, was abducted by armed men in Ibadan, the state capital, in December, 2025.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 7:06 pm at his office located at PJ Square Shopping Complex, beside the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited station, Elewure, along Iyana Ajanla, Akala Expressway, New Garage, Ibadan.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a blue Micra vehicle with two occupants, a driver and an armed man, who forcibly seized Oriade and whisked him away in the same vehicle.
