A soldier, Private Obafemi Peter Adetayo, shot by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), has died in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Adetayo was said to have been shot at the weekend at Elegushi Beach by an unidentified operative when he attempted to bring out his identity card from his pocket.
A relative of the deceased said on social media that Adetayo was shot in the stomach, adding that the DSS man has threatened the soldier’s family to maintain silence on the incident.
He wrote: “I lost a brother today. He was a soldier. Boko Haram didn’t kill him, Bandits didn’t. He didn’t die on the war front.
“He was shot in the stomach by DSS in Lekki when he attempted to bring out his ID card.
Again, Nigeria failed its own. My God! He was so full of life. An amazing soul, he was always smiling.
The DSS is threatening his elder brother to die (kill) the matter.” he wrote.
Spokesman for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Olaniyi Osoba, said a joint investigation panel has been constituted to unravel what led to the shooting.
