The long-waited confirmation of the appointment of the Justice Tanko Muhammad never came as surprise to many shortly after the red chamber endorse him as the man for job. He was appointed on Wednesday as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) following the approval from the President and recommendation from the NJC.
He was confirmed on Wednesday after a thorough screening at the National Assembly. He arrived the plenary session exactly at 10.10 am. The screening exercise which was earlier agreed upon by member to be done behind closed door with few members to serve as committee, was later added as part of the agenda on the floor.
Mr Muhammad was first appointed in January after the President controversially suspended the then Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, who was accused of false declaration of asset.
Mr Onnoghen was later found guilty by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He was forced to retire from office and his retirement was accepted by President Muhammadu Buhari.
