SDS Abuja Unit, shame couple who allegedly abused 12-year-old girl

Abuja base couple, Kelechi and Agatha Ibueachi for has been shame and paraded public by the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) Abuja Unit for allegedly abusing and traumatizing a 12-year old girl, Success Agbi, in the guise of training her.

While parading the couple in Abuja, the Director, Gender Department of the Secretariat, Mrs Agnes Hart, said the FCT administration would not fold its hands and watch young children being abused, vowing that the administration would protect the rights of every child in the territory as stipulated in the Child Right Act of 2003.

She, therefore, frowned at the criminal use of underage children as house help, saying the administration was ready to name and shame all those found guilty of any form of child abuse and molestation.

The director, who was visibly angry at the level of trauma the victim, Miss Agbi was exposed to, said: “it is so obvious that you have so traumatized this child that she is stiff, scared and she is no longer herself and that is a serious aspect of emotional and physical abuse which is a violation of the Child Right Act, 2003.

“We are here to identify cases like this. We name and shame such offenders because it is a shameful act. Here in the FCT, we forbid any form of child abuse because it is a violation of fundamental Human Rights and the Child Right Act. of 2003 and we would not take it likely. Our duty is to protect the child and all we do is in the best interest of the child.” She lamented.

She then warned residents to desist from using babies to babysit other babies, saying that the administration has informant all over the territory to provide intel on abuse cases.

It was also reliably gathered that the department was said to have rescued the victim, following a tip-off from neighbours in Kubwa community.

The victim, who was rescued from the residence of Kelechi and Agatha Ibueachi, was brought in with several cuts and lacerations on her body.

She was allegedly kept out of school for a whole term during which she was used as child labor by her guardians.
