A popular singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable has reported himself at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
This was in response to a directive by the police that the musician should report himself at the nearest police station or risk arrest over the role he played in the alleged attack on a young man simply identified as DJ Chicken.
The attack was made available in a video that went viral. The police, on June 20, issued the order for him to report at any station close to him or risk arrest.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Portable reported on Wednesday.
“The artiste reported at Eleweran at about 5 p.m. with his father and manager. Upon arrival, Portable was immediately ordered to be taken to the Public Complaint Bureau office by the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, where he was interrogated about his role in the assault meted to the boy in the video,” he said.
However, the police spokesman said he has been released on bail.
Oyeyemi gave an indication that he might soon be prosecuted when the workers’ strike in Ogun State is called off.
According to him, the strike had affected court activities.
“However, since the offence committed is a bailable one, and coupled with the strike embarked upon by the civil servants in the state which also affected our courts, the suspect was released to a reliable surety who promised to produce him anytime he is needed.
“Assaulted victim has also been invited to come and state his own side of the story to enable the command complete investigation on time,” Oyeyemi said.
