As strange and funny it may sound, this should capture the whole story of a police officer who was beaten death by a man. Police officer, Father of five beats to death by a man, father of four, over affair with lover, mother of four.
Tragedy recently struck in Benin, the Edo State capital as two married men who were in love with the same lady fought dirty which led to the death of one of them identified as a serving police officer.
The sad incident took place at about 8pm on December 27, last year at Obaruyi Street in Egor Local Government Area of the state. It was learnt that a bloody fight had ensued as the deceased policeman identified as Mr. Dickson Igbinoba exchanged hot fisticuffs with his rival as they met at their lover’s apartment in the area.
What had started as a dramatic combat later ended abruptly the moment one of the men collapsed. The victim was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital where a doctor certified him dead.
Police said trouble started when the deceased who was cooling off at the lady’s room answered her call from her phone only to discover to his shock that the caller was another man. At the end of the conversation, the caller turned out to be Mr. Osakioya Egavoen who allegedly drove to the lady’s residence and met his rival, Mr. Dickson Igbinoba.
Mr. Osakioya Egavoen, 41 years and father of five children later fled the area immediately his rival collapsed. The deceased policeman and father of four was allegedly killed inside the woman’s room in the wake of the fierce battle. The name of the lady at the center of the dispute was given as Ms Osasogie Edo-Ekhator, 37 years and mother of four children. It was further learnt that the four children belong to two other men.
Coincidentally, Ms Edo-Ekhator had watched the sad drama unfold with relish as her two “lover guests” unleashed deadly blows on each other. The fleeing suspect was later arrested by men of the Ogida Police Station after few days of manhunt.
The wife of the suspect and children had since fled their home for fear of attack by aggrieved members of the bereaved family.
Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the incident. He said that the randy woman had also been arrested even as the suspects have made statements on the matter, adding that investigation into the case has commenced.
The PPRO advised residents to always control their emotions to avoid such unforeseen circumstances.
