Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, the wife of the governor of Ekiti state has been very vocal and active in addressing the raging cause early death other serious health-related issues affecting women. Yesterday, she calls on all women to allow their husbands access to their breasts to detect lumps in time, which can lead to cancer. Mrs. Fayemi gave the advice yesterday during her advocacy tour and empowerment programme for women at Ikere, Ise/Orun and Emure local governments.
She warns women to take their health seriously by visiting registered hospitals for a medical check-up regularly.
Among other issues addressed during the programme is advocacy on the need to stop the menace of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), open defecation, domestic violence against women, child trafficking and rape that have become rampant in the society.
She said the government would not hesitate to arrest those she described as “unrepentant ” female genital mutilators operating in the state.
Mrs. Fayemi said the unwholesome practice had brought a lot of sexual damage to women through infectious diseases which destroy sexual nerve cells, thereby causing marital crises.
