Lagos First class monarch Oba Oniru dies at 82

Popular and highly respected top Oba in Lagos Kabiyesi, Oba Oniru of Iruland, Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru, is dead. He died yesterday in Lagos after a brief illness at the age of 82

The first-class monarch just celebrated his 82nd birthday last September 6 at his palace, before the ancestral call.

He is survived by wives and children, among who are former Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront, Adesegun Oniru; Justice Aishat Opesanwo; On-Air personality, Tolu Demuren (a.k.a Toolz), grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Oba Oniru succeeded his father in 1995.

He was born on September 6, 1937 and was the 12th of 15 children of the long-reigning Oba Yesufu Oniru, who died at the age of 120 years.
