Nasarawa Utd FC defender Chineme Martins slumped during Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 23 encounter with Katsina United, in Lafia, and died shortly thereafter.
Gov. Abdullahi Sule, who was at the stadium during the match, was shocked after the news was broken to him at the end of the match.
Players and officials were mourning and crying, unable to celebrate their 3-0 win.
Chairman of Nasarawa Utd FC, Barr. Isaac Danladi, State FA Chairman, Mohammed Alkali, the Executive Secretary of the club Owners Association of Nigeria Alloy Chukwuemeka and the match officials were at the Dalhatu-Araf Specialist Hospital mortuary in Lafia where the body of the late player was deposited.
