Broadcast stations to enjoy two month license-free waiver

The Federal Government has announced a two-month fee waiver for broadcast stations in the country.

The government also set up a 14-member committee to assess the impact of Coronavirus on the creative industry and advise the government on solutions.

The committee is headed by ace comedian Ali Baba.

Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said the gesture was among the government’s efforts to ameliorate the impact of COVID-19 on the industry.

At a meeting with the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) in Abuja, led by its Vice-President Godfrey Ohuabunwa, the minister said the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) had sent protective equipment to some community broadcast stations across the country.

“I want to announce that I have approved the request by the NBC to grant a two-month licence fee waiver for terrestrial broadcast stations in Nigeria,” he said.
