FG Will Not Surrender To Terrorists — Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that his administration will not bow to the threats of bandits and terrorists, assuring Nigerians of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity and economic hardship across the country.

The President’s position was conveyed on Sunday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, during a national inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Akume, speaking on behalf of the President, said the Federal Government remained fully aware of the prevailing economic difficulties, insecurity, kidnappings and displacement affecting various parts of the country, stressing that efforts were underway to respond with urgency and empathy.

According to him, the administration is intensifying measures to strengthen security architecture while also working to ease the economic burden on citizens.

“Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries,” he said.

He added that the safe rescue and return of Nigerians held captive by criminal groups remains a top national priority, noting that security agencies are being reinforced and better supported to confront emerging threats.

Reiterating the government’s stance on insecurity, Akume said: “The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation.”

He maintained that the country’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance since 1999 reflected the resilience of Nigerians and the sacrifices of pro-democracy advocates, particularly those who lost their lives during the June 12 struggle.

As political activities gradually heighten ahead of the 2027 general elections, the SGF urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate speech and divisive rhetoric, warning against actions that could undermine national unity.

He also cautioned young people against being used as tools for thuggery, misinformation and political violence, advising them to safeguard their future from short-term political inducements.

“Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience,” he warned.

Akume further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, the media and families to promote peace, tolerance and national cohesion, while commending the armed forces and other security agencies for their continued role in defending the country’s democracy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to the message, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring that the dividends of democracy are more widely felt by Nigerians.
