The southeast governors’ forum and Ohanaeze Ndigbo have banned the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra – The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held at the Enugu government house. The meeting was attended by governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dave Umahi, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Willie Obiano.
The Nigerian military had earlier categorized the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group – On his part, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB petitioned the European Union over the ongoing military operation in southeast region of Nigeria. Reading a communique after the 2-hour meeting, Governor Umahi said: “All activities of IPOB are hereby proscribed. IPOB and all other aggrieved groups are advised to articulate their position on all national issues and submit to the committee of governors and National Assembly members from Southeast zone, through the chairman, southeast governors forum.
The defence headquarters had earlier profiled the IPOB as a terrorist organization.
