Security personnel attached to the Presidential Guard yesterday engaged some bandits operating around Dutsinma in Katsina State in a gun battle.
The personnel were President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team to his Daura country home ahead the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The Presidency condemned the development and described as sad and unwelcomed. The convoy of officials, including, protocol, security and media personnel, ran into the scene of operation by the bandits near Dutsinma.
A statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, confirmed that two members of the convoy sustained minor injuries, which were being attended two.
Shehu said the convoy arrived in Daura safely. The statement reads: “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the advance team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but, were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
